HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) - An innocent person inside a car stopped at a red light was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver early Monday morning in northwest Harris County.Īccording to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, at about 2 a.m., a pickup truck driver was speeding when he slammed into the back of the car stopped at the red light eastbound on FM 1960 at Eldridge Parkway. It is unclear how fast Vargas was driving at the time of the crash. After being treated at a local hospital for minor injuries, Vargas was booked for murder. Investigators determined that Vargas was driving under the influence of alcohol and immediately arrested him. The driver of the Escape, escaped uninjured.
The impact of the accident caused the Civic to be pushed sideways and collide with the front end of a 2008 Ford Escape that was already stopped on Sunset Boulevard.
